What Are You Willing To Sacrifice

Have you ever made a sacrifice in order to help others or make someone happy?

Yes, definitely! I'm a nice person after all ;). When I was in fifth grade (I believe), I gave up my whole year's allowance just to donate to the World Vision Organization and I sponsored a little girl in India (or somewhere like that, I believe). It was a heart-breaking, yet very inspiring thing to do. After giving up all my allowance, I was quite depressed (it may seem a bit selfish, but giving up a whole year's worth of allowance is quite a fatal wound to my young heart). However, when Christmas came, I got a little letter from the little girl with a drawing of a really cute little Christmas Tree, saying how grateful she is that I'm helping her. I really touched me, and I realized how lucky I really am. Just a simple allowance of mine is enough to support that little girl for such a long time. I think I really learned a lot from that experience, and I'm still sponsoring her! I also still have no allowance, but I like it better that way. At least now I won't have to pay for my own things even though I wouldn't really have that much freedom of choosing them. I also recently sacrificed my club time to the St. Joseph people. It's not much of a sacrifice, since I'll have some gains in this (community service hours!), but it's club time... Anyways, I think I kind of like helping people, because making others' lives easier can definitely make yourself feel more confident and build a higher self-esteem, but hopefully not too high.

Qualities of A Survivor

A survivor must be able to think fast and adapt to nature really easily. Just like in the Hunger Games! Like Katniss (love her)! Even though it's a total ripoff of the Japanese book, it was still pretty good. You must be smart and at least have some basic skills, like hunting or how to make fire and what are poisonous and what are not. You must be smart, can think logically, and think fast. Also, think like your enemy, so you can understand their logic, therefore, you can predict their moves and fool them or something like that. To be a survivor, you must also have faith in yourself. It's probably really easy to loose faith and give up on yourself in the wild, especially if you have no ally and you're out there all alone. To have a better chance of survival, you must also have some kind of weapon, if you don't you should have the knowledge of how to make one out the nature.

The Most Dangerous Game: Pre-Reading Questions

1. What do you think it feels like to be hunted?
2. Do animals feel?
3. Do we need to hunt?
4. Do we need to hunt now?

I think being hunted must feel terrible, but that depends on who's hunting you and how powerful you are. For example, if the person hunting you had no guns and is weak and feeble, then you have no need to fear. If you  can overpower your predator then you also have nothing to worry about. But in most cases, the hunter is more powerful than the prey, or the hunter could have just killed the prey in a most painless way (without the chase which is probably meant for thrill). The prey must be terrified and desperate when it's hunted, and it must think fast or die. I personally believe that animals do have feelings too. If they don't have feelings, then why will the parents care for they offspring, because caring is a type a feeling. And, of course they have feelings, because if they can feel pain and heat (because they hopefully have a nervous system), why can't they also feel fear and love? Dogs for example can be very loyal to their owners, how can that not be a feeling? Is that not affection, respect, or love or friendship? Of course they have feelings. I also think that every animal has feelings too because they all feel fear, they must, because fear is one of the big things or reasons that causes animals to do some things. I think our ancestors needed to hunt, because they didn't breed animals themselves, so they had to. But nowadays, I don't think hunting is really necessary because everything we need to eat to maintain our health, we can get in a more peaceful and painless for the animals way. I think nowadays, the people who do hunt are only hunting for the thrill of it and I think that is very, very cruel. It's just like bullying because you just scare other creatures just so you can feel cool and good. That is very cruel indeed.
